Visit to York, Yorkshire UK - Monday 13 January 2014

On the trains again, but for a change we switch to the East Coast 1st class service.  Older rolling stock but the service was very good indeed.  Meals served and plenty of refreshments.
Departure from Kings Cross London.  Travel time 1hr 50mins

York Minster is a gothic cathedral in York, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe.

The River Ouse is a river in North Yorkshire, England.  The river is formed from the River Ure at Cuddy Shaw Reach.  It then flows through the city of York.  The length of the Ouse is about 84km's.  The combined river with the Ure totals 208 km which makes it the sixth longest in the UK.

We are standing on Skeldergate Bridge, which is one of 9 bridges that cross the River Ouse in the City of York

A cake shop?  No, a soap shop.  So delicious to look at but not too flash on the palate

Lendal Bridge.  Until 1861 there was a rope-ferry where the now bridge stands.  This was the ferry used by Florence Nightingale when she visited York en route to Castle Howard in 1852.

How do you think the National Health Service (NHS) would calculate that home visit?

Ummmm, Sarah contemplating some shopping at Debenhams.  Shall I or shan't I?  Perhaps I should enjoy the sunshine instead, or what's left of it.  The sun will start disappearing within the next hour.

Where to next?  Up the road to Newcastle.  On the train at 125 mph, it will take an hour.  Time to meet some Geordie's.
